Happy New Year and a Fresh Start
So here we are again, a brand new start with a New Year – 2008 ! However, I must confess that I have never been a great fan of the event although I can remember four consecutive ones that were very amusing and in the end, great fun. How they came about was that whilst I was retraining myself in computer technology in the late 80′s, I needed an income and a job that left my days free, someone offered me a job as a doorman at a West End Bar in London during the evenings and nothing ventured…
The bar was right next to Trafalgar Square so a very strict door policy applied which was quite amusing in itself, the British public are by and large, pretty law abiding so whilst there was a lot of banter, there were no great dramas to deal with. After we closed because we were running an extended pub licence, with the other staff I went to clubs with them that were running far later and we all had a lot of fun.
Of course and in most respects, the problem with any New Year is that most likely and however hard we try to “make it different” the next year very quickly turns into the same as the previous one but with the added cost of our extravagances over the Christmas period weighing heavily on our credit cards! But let’s not be cynical and downbeat for whilst it is all rather artificial, even if for just a few days, it is nice to contemplate that perhaps…”This will be my year…”
So in a spirit of optimism, a picture of a still and cold dawn on the River Brue that I hope, projects a mood of a new day and a new start. Have a very happy, prosperous and healthy New Year.
