A Cardinal Speaks a Prime Minister Betrays

The one thing that I can guarantee being a Catholic and even with “Right Wing” views, the very mention of ‘Catholic’ in a news story of any kind will bring forth the usual anti-catholic rhetoric that comes so easily to the surface in these islands. Never-the-less, whilst I noted that the “Church” was opposed to this embryo research legislation, I as ever, conducted my own investigations and found that even large sections of the scientific community are opposed to it albeit, for highly technical reasons. There are many who question whether this is even pointing in the right direction and none of the people I read, quoted religious reservations as the personal reasons for their opposition.

A Constitutional Problem

I do not know the Cardinal we’ve never met and most certainly he is not a “personal mate” of mine but perhaps in being outspoken, he may be pointing to something else concerning what has happened in our Parliament over the past decade which is “party dictate” taking precedence over personal conscience. For all the “anti-catholic, anti-religious” brigade who will inevitably write in with their usual venom to the Press, stop and think about it for a moment. By convention and when any issue could or even may, impact upon personal conscience, religious beliefs and so forth, such issues have always been dealt with upon a free vote with no whips. If I remember correctly, the original measures to allow abortion came via a ‘Private Members Bill’ sponsored by David Steel (?), I think. Although the Government made sure it had the “space” to go through the House, it was not Government policy, it was a matter of ‘private conscience’ based upon personal conviction.

There is a very good reason for this because although culturally we are a Christian society, we have long since evolved into a secular one when it comes to the rule of law. To allow people the freedom of “personal conscience” is an integral part of this process, they may express their views without impeding the progress of the majority where that ‘progress’ is desirable. To me as a Catholic, it is totally unacceptable for 3 Catholic members of Cabinet to be “allowed” by that chinless creep Hoon, to ‘absent’ themselves from Parliament for the vote when they should be allowed to vote against the measure.

Better still, it should never ever have been made Government Policy which automatically means a 3 line whip. It wasn’t in the Labour Manifesto, they weren’t elected to do this but and then again, no surprise there, we were promised a vote on the EU Referendum and that isn’t going to happen so I guess old Cyclops can make it all up as he goes. Perhaps and most likely, it was “sold to him” as a possible route by which his children’s health issues could be dealt with – who knows the lies of one side and the desperation of the other ?

Parliament

There is a major “British Constitutional” issue here which really does need to be addressed and is a separate matter from this particular legislation. There is something called “Collective Responsibility” when it comes to the Government and its Cabinet. Robin Cook could not accept the direction of British policy and therefore correctly, resigned, Claire Short bumbled on for a time and eventually, did the same. If you are a member of the Government, you take policy decisions collectively – period. If the Government needs to change policy and direction, as a member of the Government, you go along with it or, you resign, under no circumstances do you get an excuse note for your absence in a vote from the Chief Whip.

What is certainly true is that the scientific rationale is being clouded by a lot of personal, moral, religious and political reasons which is really bad news, all round, most people just want to know the “probabilities” and the checks and balances to it all based upon the outcomes. Blair just didn’t know, like, let alone love Parliament and it processes, Mr “Wrap Myself in the Union Flag” Brown, is no better and probably the reason why him and his “minky” Milliband, have so easily sold us all into bondage and slavery under the Brussels Dictatorship. This is a whole lot more than a “Papist” attempt to rule the UK, the Cardinal may well, inadvertantly, become the last bastion of independence and self rule for the UK.
