Heathrow Expansion
I have lived near Heathrow during two extensive periods of my life but truthfully, never directly under a flight path. However, I love flying and never cease to be in awe of these mighty beasts taking off and landing. On my return from living in the States and prior to moving down to Somerset, I lived right next door to Terminal 4 during the time Concorde was being decommissioned. The “evening rush” when short haul planes are landing every 90 seconds with them stacked one behind the other flying in over London from the East, is an astonishing sight.
NATO Summit in Romania
At the NATO Summit in Romania, Afghanistan and the need for the 26 member countries to come up with more combat troops, will be high on the agenda however, the response from the majority of countries will be next to nothing. France will promise a few more hundred troops to train the Afghan Army and others will make similar niggardly gestures, what will not happen is the additional 10-20,000 combat troops needed for the job. In addition, any forces promised will be subject to restrictions on their use, can’t go out after dark and so on.
