Introduction to a Project – 40 Years
Perhaps apart from putting my views down on paper in order to clarify them in my own mind as each “news story” hits the fan, by doing so I can look back later and perhaps, take another view. It is amazing how we can react in “this way” to a breaking news story and yet, a few days later as the dust has settled and more information has come to light, in fact take a totally opposite view. By putting my thoughts to ‘paper’, whilst it will ‘expose me’ when I am wrong, it should likewise strengthen me when I’m right…Now time for a project !
Although I have written on numerous subjects though mainly political since I started this last November, I have come to the realisation that the real flaw or ‘mote in the eye’ is actually our whole political processes rather more than the “current stories” themselves which may well only be symptoms rather than the disease. If we stand back only a little, what we see is a major ‘disconnect’ between the governors and the governed, communications between the two have or are breaking down completely, which means that it is time tackle the problem.
Dealing with problems
However, the key to solving any problem lies in understanding the constituent parts that make it up and as importantly, how they relate to each other and interact. The fact that Gordon Brown looks somewhat like Richard III just prior to the Battle of Bosworth is probably less important than understanding just how we arrived at this point and understanding that likely, if you changed Brown for AN Other, it would become much the same fairly quickly.
The most amazing political story of recent years has been the EU Constitution/Lisbon Treaty and the events surrounding it. I would point out that regardless of the ‘stance’ of any particular person in terms of pro or anti, you just couldn’t have made these events up, they are extraordinary. That the EU and Brussels are deaf to and ignore all EU citizens as little better than “inconvenient cockroaches” is not news, that Gordon Brown already well on his way at outset to being a very unpopular Prime Minister, should behave as he has, is little short of extraordinary.
Is he that deaf, stupid or as I earlier speculated, has he embarked upon a “scorched earth” policy to discomfort an incoming Tory Government. Whatever the motivation, the man is on track to becoming rather unhinged or ‘unfocused’.
In a celebrity riddled (ravaged ?), tabloid mad UK perhaps the focus is totally wrong by concentrating on the singer rather than the song. Could it be that it is not the singer, it is the song of our democratic freedoms that is now out of tune because the original score has been lost or simply forgotten ?
My Aim – a Very Ambitious one too !
This essay is the start of a series which I will group under the banner of “40 Years”.
Why 40 years ? It is the timespan I estimate that will be needed to completely change the current situation although in many areas, great strides can be be made now and changes do need to start today in order to meet even that goal. I make no claim to being a great philosopher or anything so grand, anybody else’s opinion is as valid as mine but what I do want to do is pull together a whole number of strands of the puzzle as I see them and present them finally, in a consolidated form.
This is a voyage of discovery and whilst each essay will be linked and, one hopes, built one upon the other, it is most likely only when I have finished and edited them together into one PDF file that anybody can download that the final version will have evolved.
On my journey I will touch upon very many “technical areas” of one sort or another and upon which I have only a broad conceptual grasp however whilst the “Devil often lies in the details” for the practical purposes of this exercise, that is no bad thing because whilst not all, many such problems can be overcome if, there is a requirement to do so and a willingness to think outside of the box.
But that said, if I touch upon something of which you as a reader have intimate knowledge, by all means write in and include web links if appropriate. And if you are up for the ‘gig’ perhaps we can evolve some solutions over time.
This being the end of the introduction, the next entry will be the real start of the series. It will not be that from now on I will only write this series, it will be interspersed with other pieces because it will take time to evolve my thinking and start building a viable structure on paper that could live in the real world. Also current news stories do provide the fuel for this fire and can be used to illustrate some key principles.
As an example, I might write an opinion piece on house prices and later without regurgitating the detail, use part of those ideas within the “40 Year” essays whilst providing a web link to my original thinking/blog entry, we shall see how it develops.

I don’t share your politics, but I do share a similar blog name. Can I suggest we include each other on our blog rolls? My blog is about SEO and ecommerce, not half as interesting as yours, but at least our respective audiences will know how to get to each other’s sites.
Love WordPress too, can I suggest you switch permalinks on? It will help your site’s visibility.
Best regards
