Ruth Kelly + Human Embryology Bill

Ruth Kelly will avoid a Labour 3 Line Whip next Monday by swanning off to Brussels and thus avoid voting on the Human Embryology Bill. This fudge has been agreed with our lack lustre Prime Minister, GB – Grovelling Brown well, at least he grovels to Brussels if not the people who elected him and pay him his not inconsiderable remunerations.

In basic principle because whether by sins of commission or omission, Ruth Kelly undermines her faith and personal relationship with Almighty God. I would hesitate to judge any other person on such matters but in her case because she has chosen a political and “law making” life, it cannot be avoided.

As others have already pointed out, Tony Blair can hardly escape the charge of total hypocrisy in these or indeed many other matters of conscience either. Although I am a Catholic and oppose this legislation, what Ruth Kelly does personally is a matter for her conscience but what she does as a Cabinet Minister is not.

We have seen the wholesale destruction of moral principles, sound governance, money and common-sense since New Labour was first elected back in 1997. Today both Politicians and Parliament are held in the lowest esteem ever by the vast majority of the inhabitants of these islands, they are all seen as liars, cheats and money grabbers. This is a pretty Godless land these days and there will be many who will rejoice loudly and preen their “intellectual superiority” over a supposed person of “Faith” acting as a total hypocrite but the damage that Kelly has done harms all people of faith whether Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist or whatever.

Someone mentioned Thomas Moore in reference to Ruth Kelly although I cannot really see the remotest relevance, he had a purpose to his endless negotiations and far greater difficulties to contend with then compared to any politician of any faith in secular Britain today.

Ruth Kelly may be a disgrace to her God but frankly, that is a private matter for her to deal with. She is most certainly a disgrace to Parliament and the whole concept of High Office by not following her avowed religion and its teachings plus the moral code that must flow from that. Regardless of whether others might agree or not, her acting as a total hypocrite is a truly ugly sight and cannon fodder for those who can no longer believe in our democracy and Parliament. She should have either renounced her faith or her job, you just can’t slice and dice this one.
