Gordon and the G8…

There have been a number of articles in the media questioning just how effective this particular G8 Summit in Japan is. In fact when running over the list of attendees it has been noted from George Bush, Gordon Brown onwards, most of them are “lame ducks” in their respective domestic situations.

It made me think and to be honest, my conclusion was that I wouldn’t worry too much about the collective dross that represents the “G8 Leadership” right now, in fact I’m rather be grateful for it as we all should be. Indeed from a purely British perspective I am especially delighted because at least our brain dead representative, the highly inept Gordon Brown, won’t stick out like a sore thumb, he’ll seem almost normal.

Politicians Are A Holes...

The key problem with all politicians is a delusion they all share that they through their words and actions they can change World events when patently they can’t unless of course they hit the wrong button and accidentally launch a nuclear Armageddon which most certainly would change the World by ending it. At the very, very best, some may influence or provide focus for a given “event” but whatever started that “event” it wasn’t them and was way outside of their control in the first place.

It is like any Government and New Labour is a classic case, which claims the glory for economic growth, they are telling lies which sadly they believe and yet economic growth is the product of the energies and drive of millions of individuals following their own destinies. Governments can’t produce anything efficiently including major IT projects and cannot even manage to keep your personal data safe, it will be left on a train, lost in the post or on a stolen laptop. The only contribution that any Government can make to economic growth is to reduce both its size (the Government’s that is), and intrusion into the economy oh, and for them to shut the f**k up.

Recession or Depression...

Whatever the forth coming economic events are, there is precious little that the G8 Leaders can do about it now, they probably caused it in the first place through bad policies and can’t resolve it. How it will get ‘fixed’ is by us the ‘little people’ right across the Globe.

We by which I mean each one of us as individuals, are going to have to change our behaviour whether through eating less because there is less choice, drive cars less, because we cannot afford the fuel. See the notional value of our cars and property plunge because nobody wants to or can afford to buy them. Wear extra clothes in winter because we cannot afford to turn the thermostat up etc. And clearly this is a “western perspective”; it’s always a lot worse in poorer countries where even the little they have is further reduced.

The point is, no one changes their personal habits unless forced to by personal circumstances and nobody clings to a long list of “expectation and rights” in these situations, instead they focus on those things that are important to them. It will be through this process and mirrored right across the World that a new, better and more sustainable economic model will evolve created by all of “us” and not by politicians.

Right Now Crap Leadership is the “Mutts Nuts”

In the UK we give someone the job like Prime Minister, if they do well they may preen themselves all they like and they generally do, however, do as badly as Brown and they get thrown out on their ear, in fact and in the end, however well they do even, they always end up being thrown out on their ear nobody leaves British politics unscathed.

What has happened is that the scales have fallen from the eyes of the British electorate so that there is no trust in our political classes who would be a permanent “Ruling Elite” as in Brussels given half a chance. Tony Blair at the grinning height of his powers: “I know the answer to this, follow me...” has long gone and he will never lead the British people again nor anyone like him for the next decade or two.

Whilst some may say that it is rather unfair on Gordon Brown that he has been left holding the baby, it isn’t really, he deserves it because he was the most important other part of Blair’s 10 years in power, wanted the job desperately and yet, didn’t prepare for it in any way at all it appears.  No, on balance, Justice is served although as a fellow human being, I am empathetic to his humiliation though, would do nothing to prevent – “To encourage the others” one might say.

On With the Motley...

Good, bad or indifferent, let the economic crisis rip, it is only afterwards that we will need good leaders because politicians are “Reactive” not “Pro-Active”, they have to have a problem with defined issues to solve first, the current situation they cannot fathom let alone solve. Rather like Gordon Brown as Chancellor claiming all the glory for the “economic miracle” he had created all by himself for 10 years but when the economic tide turned, it was all to do with global stuff outside of his control.

From the G8 we can expect a statement that includes blame on “Commodity Speculators” etc – ie. “Not Our Fault !”

The one thing I like best about Gordon Brown is his total lack of courage. If he had the balls to call that election last year, he would have won it and we would still have to suffer another 4 years of him but thanks to “Bottler Brown” although he will do everything he can to hand a poisoned chalice to an incoming Tory Government even by deliberately screwing up the economy, we now have less than 2 years more of this dreadful little man and his disgraceful henchmen and women !
