Barak Obama Sorry but I am Not a Believer…

I must confess that when it comes to the next President of the United States, I have not been ‘inspired’ for some time by which I mean a number of Presidential Races, with the choices on offer from any particular side. Although History will judge the present incumbent far more kindly than the media does, we have not had a really striking President since Ronald Reagan.

The Candidates

This time around, I certainly didn’t want Hilary Clinton, nothing wrong with a woman President but her ‘baggage’ in Bill would have been intolerable for anyone to bear. In that case Obama would seem to be the ‘pick’ but my gut feeling despite his age and that he would be a one term holder of the Office which maybe no bad thing, is that John McCain would be the better man for the times. As a child of the 60’s and very caught up in the Civil Rights Movement of those times, I would expect to be very for an almost black American becoming President and yet I’m not.

More than Presentation

I have thought about it very carefully and am aware that all candidates to the Presidency undergo a major transformation once elected in November. The American system to root out their Presidential candidate is a long and bruising battle and never more so that this time in the Democratic Camp. But all that said my personal objection comes down not to what Obama is saying; all good stuff and I don’t doubt his sincerity but…

I really don’t like the way he speaks, he speaks far too quickly and in doing so projects a kind of carelessness that is just not allowed in this most high Office.

This could be due to inexperience combined with him psychologically not making the shift from the campaign trail where pouring out ideas like a gushing stream is part of giving people hope and a way of painting less limiting horizons for them. It may well be that once elected, Barak Obama may like some caterpillar suddenly and overnight, transform himself into the most amazing Butterfly, he may suddenly acquire the gravitas this job demands.

But frankly I don’t know and I certainly wouldn’t bet the farm on it. Fortunately I don’t have a vote on this one and Americans understand the nuances of their system better than I an outsider could so in the end, I will trust in them, the American people more than either of the candidates for the Office of President of the United States of America.
