Gordon and the G8…

im-pol.jpg

There have been a number of articles in the media questioning just how effective this particular G8 Summit in Japan is. In fact when running over the list of attendees it has been noted from George Bush, Gordon Brown onwards, most of them are “lame ducks” in their respective domestic situations.

It made me think and to be honest, my conclusion was that I wouldn’t worry too much about the collective dross that represents the “G8 Leadership” right now, in fact I’m rather be grateful for it as we all should be. Indeed from a purely British perspective I am especially delighted because at least our brain dead representative, the highly inept Gordon Brown, won’t stick out like a sore thumb, he’ll seem almost normal.

I do Not Understand the BBC…

im-engscot

To me the BBC has become a total mystery and I genuinely wonder “what is it for ?” When it comes to news and telling it truthfully, it long ago lost its crown to CNN. As for drama series, it is willing to plough lots of money into things like EastEnders but precious little into anything ground breaking and original.

When I look at the BBC, because of its Licence Fee income, I see it as a Premiership football club that can lose every match in a season yet, never get relegated. I find it both strange and a total failure of imagination on their part, not to have used this unique posture to really try out some exciting stuff.

Ruth Kelly + Human Embryology Bill

im-hp.jpg

Ruth Kelly will avoid a Labour 3 Line Whip next Monday by swanning off to Brussels and thus avoid voting on the Human Embryology Bill. This fudge has been agreed with our lack lustre Prime Minister, GB – Grovelling Brown well, at least he grovels to Brussels if not the people who elected him and pay him his not inconsiderable remunerations.

In basic principle because whether by sins of commission or omission, Ruth Kelly undermines her faith and personal relationship with Almighty God. I would hesitate to judge any other person on such matters but in her case because she has chosen a political and “law making” life, it cannot be avoided.

A Total Nonsense

im-def.jpg

Last Thursday the deal was signed to build two large aircraft carriers and it will come as little surprise to note that the majority of the shipbuilding jobs go to Scotland where the Labour Party’s fortunes are at a low ebb. Let me make it clear, I personally have no problem with ships being built in Scotland as without military orders, there would be no shipbuilding there at all.

The problem lies more with what they are building, there is absolutely no case and never has been for these 2 aircraft carriers, they are a total military nonsense that have nothing what-so-ever to do with the Defence of the Realm. They manage to be not only militarily useless but also are totally unaffordable in financial terms and will inevitably impact on all other defence procurements in a negative way.

Votes For What…Votes For Whom ? 40 Years essay 3

im-baldy3.jpg

I have always believed that the most significant event of the 20th Century was the First World War because it was the watershed event that changed the world order and caused major social upheaval right across the Globe. The “Flower of Europe” mown down, the Bolshevik Revolution, the ending of the ruling dynasties and the collapsing of Empires.

Whilst we often hear of the “Suffragette Movement” and votes for women, what is less talked about is that the majority of the British young men who fought and died on the Western Front also didn’t have a vote due to a lack of property qualifications.
