I’m Still Not Listening…

Some time ago along with many others, I signed an “e-petition” a the PMs Office (online), concerning our membership of the EU, last Wednesday we all received a reply which basically amounts to “Fuck Off you peasants, we the Mighty Gordon Brown and the ‘traitor’ David Miliband know better than you…”

Hardly a surprise one may say considering that we have the most politically inept Government of all time which also happens to be intellectually challenged to boot ! True you might say that Tony Blair’s Government was no better on the intellectual front, especially the Prime Minister as the grazed knuckles show but at least Blair made some efforts to do decent ‘presentations’ even if the content was crap.

As we saw from Brown’s speeches in Afghanistan and at the Olympics, Gordon is a moron who lacks any kind of political touch or feel, the Mr Magoo of British politics.

This Petition – LTPD07

“We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to let the people decide on the future relationship between Britain and the European Union and not pass through new treaties without consulting the voters.”

Details of Petition:

Ever since Britain joined the Common Market in 1973, more and more powers have been handed to Brussels without the voters being granted a referendum. Now that huge elements of the EU Constitution are being brought in by the new ‘Reform Treaty’, it is time for the British people to have their say on our future relationship with the EU. I say, Let the People Decide.”

The Reply:

“The Government believes that EU Membership is firmly in Britain’s national interest, and remains committed to ensuring that the EU is focussed on adding value for its citizens.

Our membership of the EU has brought real benefits in jobs, peace and security. Through it, we belong to the world’s biggest trading bloc.  Half the UK’s trade is now within the EU, with an estimated 3.5 million British jobs linked to it. Our membership allows us to live, work and travel across Europe and to receive free medical care if we fall sick on holiday.  And each citizen benefits in ways that are harder to quantify in cash terms, such as a cleaner environment, trade deals negotiated by the EU, and better security.

There was a referendum on UK membership of the European Economic Community in June 1975, which was passed in favour of membership. Thereafter, each Treaty change has been approved by the democratically elected British Parliament. No government, Labour or Conservative, has ever held a referendum on an amending European treaty. Parliament remains the correct place for debate and decision on such treaties.”

My Notes In the Margin – a Little Dissection…

“The Government believes that EU Membership is firmly in Britain’s national interest, and remains committed to ensuring that the EU is focussed on adding value for its citizens.”

What Gordon really means is:

“The Russians really scare me so I could leave our Foreign Policy to the French and concentrate on avoiding being stabbed fatally in the back by the Foreign Secretary. If we didn’t have the EU, David and I would have had to get on with doing the jobs we are paid to do, by you out of the money we confiscate from you in taxes.”

“Our membership of the EU has brought real benefits in jobs, peace and security.”

“Ask Mr and Mrs Kinock, Nick Clegg, Peter Mandelson and numerous MEPs, Civil Servants, Judges and politicians all will attest to a bonanza of jobs, undocumented expenses and most importantly of all, gold plated pensions have come our way and I am hoping for my turn too. All these things have delivered peace of mind and undreamed of job security to all of us involved.”

“Half the UK’s trade is now within the EU, with an estimated 3.5 million British jobs linked to it.”

“So there is also something job wise even for you dross. Okay, that is probably offset by the 12 million or so jobs in other EU countries that rely upon us to continue importing from them even if we can’t afford it.”

“Our membership allows us to live, work and travel across Europe and to receive free medical care if we fall sick on holiday.  And each citizen benefits in ways that are harder to quantify in cash terms, such as a cleaner environment, trade deals negotiated by the EU, and better security.”

“It also makes it easier to flood the UK with millions of other EU citizens so that they can work at low wages on which I can tax them, demand housing, education and health resources which we must supply under our treaty obligations and must comply with all EU Directives even if it means ‘bumping’ indigenous people down the queue. ”

“There was a referendum on UK membership of the European Economic Community in June 1975, which was passed in favour of membership. Thereafter, each Treaty change has been approved by the democratically elected British Parliament. No government, Labour or Conservative, has ever held a referendum on an amending European treaty. Parliament remains the correct place for debate and decision on such treaties.”

“If you were 21 in 1975, you had your chance to vote and just because you have changed your mind now you are 54 is of no interest to this Government, you shouldn’t have been so fickle in the first place. As for those younger than 54, you never have had a chance to express your views and as long as I am Prime Minister, you never will either so, get over it !”

Sticking his fingers in his ears and closing his eyes, Gordon walked straight ahead singing…

“La, la, la, la, la, la …”
