Tune In, Turn On and Take Over-Foreign Policy

In the late 1980’s as I was retraining myself for a career in IT I needed an income and was offered an evening job by someone who knew me but it had two slightly odd aspects to it:

Firstly it was as a Doorman (Bouncer) of a West End Bar and whilst prepared to stand up as the occasion required, I was certainly at 5’8” no Rambo.  The second aspect was that it was a ‘Gay Bar’ and whilst I had no problem with that, whether the customers would accept being “policed” by a straight chap was another question. Oddly enough though, it all worked out reasonably well …

Manipulating the Media – Labour Spins Again

It is called the “silly season” because it is the Summer Holiday period; people are away relaxing and enjoying themselves so that they are less interested in “political dramas” and more into “Man Bites Dog” type stories. However, the political journalists still have to earn a crust and the backroom Spin Machine of the Labour Party is only too willing to use them for their own advantage.

The ongoing “Miliband Mounts Leadership Challenge” stories seem to me to be part of a complicated scheme to try and minimise the damage to the Labour Party at the 2010 General Election. Although not publicly admitted, the upper echelons of the Labour Party accept that they will lose, the question is, just how heavily and can they mitigate it in anyway ? The prize is no longer winning a 4th Term, a Hung Parliament would be a “Dream Result” for Labour, coming 3rd behind the LibDems, a true disaster for them.

The Impact of the UK Economy on Labour & Brown

Water always finds its own level and however harsh in the process, so do markets. This Government and to be fair many others across the developed world too, have contributed to this whole problem through lying to both us and themselves, about inflation. How on earth any official inflation figures published managed to exclude housing costs but include iPods, is beyond any attempt at credibility on their part.

Inflation has been running in the 5%-10% range for most of the time Labour has been in power but like the “Golden Rules” illustrate, anything said by Gordon Brown in particular and any Labour backbench MP scared of losing their seat generally is not to be trusted, they are in panic mode. I could challenge Gordon Brown to be a true patriot and forswear doing anything that interferes with the market but perhaps him destroying the UK economy by further meddling is his “Fate” and ours.
