The Village Idiot
That I would personally like a General Election immediately so that we can get rid of Brown and this appalling Labour Government is because I want to see the Country moving forward again with a bit of “Hope” in our hearts instead of living with a totally “Hopeless” and long past it’s Sell By date Government.
Yesterday I was gob smacked to hear that an article published under Gordon Brown’s name appeared to endorse the Democrats and Barak Obama. It is well known that you do not ever be seen to favour one side or the other in any foreign election campaign, that is a matter for the voters of that country not the British Prime Minister ! I would call him a part of the female anatomy that rhymes with hunt but, they are very, very useful, Gordon Brown will never be, not even as a bookend.
Of All Countries – the USA
The United States as a former colony that won it’s independence from Britain by force of arms, is quite rightly jealous of it’s democracy and processes and it beggars all belief that anyone at No.10 could have been so crass as to insinuate or state a preference for one Presidential candidate over another. Whoever wins the Presidency, the British Prime Minister will have to work with them closely and whilst one hopes Brown hasn’t long to go before being removed from Office, there was no point in creating a problem in the first place through personal ignorance.
The Company They Keep
The volume of outraged Americans posting on various net comments boards is totally understandable as is the Republican Party lodging a protest with the British Embassy in Washington. However and to be fair, I suspect the Republicans are secretly laughing their socks off an “endorsement” by Gordon Brown, the lamest post war Prime Minister since Anthony Eden, is assuredly the kiss of death for Obama and the Democrats. It will not give McCain the boost that Sarah Palin has but, it is good for a laugh.
It is like the old joke about a woman and her husband passing a drunk fast asleep beside a pig.
“You can tell how low some people are” she said, “By the company they keep”.
The pig looked across at the drunk, snorted, got up and walked away.
The Excuse
The article was in the Monitor magazine and no, I’ve never heard of it either, to set out Brown’s intent on yet another relaunch at the Labour Party Conference. Apparently, the following is the content:
“Around the world, it is progressive politicians who are grappling with these challenges. In the electrifying US Presidential campaign, it is the Democrats who are generating the ideas to help people through more difficult times. To help prevent people from losing their home, Barack Obama has proposed a Foreclosure Prevention Fund to increase emergency pre-foreclosure counselling, and help families facing repossession.”
Of course this was written by a junior official and Brown just signed it although clearly without reading it or wearing his “thinking head” perhaps that is his excuse over the “EU Constitution”.
In Office but Not in Power
I suspect that the “tipping point” for Gordon Brown was Vince Cable of the LibDems and his “From Clunking Fist to Mr Bean” remark in the House but it was true as well as funny. Everything that Brown touches turns to dust in his hands and allowing any article to leave his Office under his name is just horrific. Prime Ministers whilst in Office, rarely publish articles under their own name because between the Commons and Press Conferences, they have copious avenues to get ‘their message’ and ideas out into the media space whether TV or print.
It therefore simply does beggar belief that “He just signed it off…” that is a downright lie and the truth is more interesting which is that he was just far too stupid and politically inept to realise the implications for US/UK relations.
Buried deep in his Bunker at Downing St. with his head up his own bottom, all he cares for is his own survival as PM, this article was to show that he, Gordon Brown, was doing the ‘right things’ and taking the ‘right approach’ as Obama and the Democrats in the States show… Sadly though, apparently the Democrats have ‘pulled’ this policy from their own web site which is hardly a surprise considering the virtual ‘nationalisation’ of Freddie and Fanny.
We really should install a set of ‘stocks’ on Parliament Green and stick Brown in them because he really is the Village Idiot – Westminster Village, that is.
