The Arrest of Damian Green MP
The arrest and detention for 9 hours by the Metropolitan Police of the Shadow spokesman on Immigration over ‘leaked’ Home Office documents manages to be both slightly sinister and also pure slapstick.
Although I think that Gordon Brown and all of his Cabinet should have been drowned at birth along with the rest of their litters, let us be a bit steady here. In the UK ‘cock up’ is the norm rather than ‘conspiracy’ and anyway Gordon being a total moron would find the latter too difficult even with the Queen of Darkness to help him remember the plot and his lines.
My Initial Reaction
When I first heard of this I was surprised, when I understood the issue, I was outraged ! How dare a Government use the Police to investigate the leakage of information in this way especially one who runs 50% of its communications via obviously placed leaks, some to trail policy announcements to test the water, others to deliberately mislead. However, when I stopped and thought about it for a moment, a different realisation came to mind.
Of course Brown and Smith are lying through their teeth about not knowing anything about it and Sir David Normington is an obvious and prime example of pond life who is trying to suck a fart out of Brown’s bottom. As to the Police ‘Raids’ using anti-Terror units, it ranks up there with the Keystone Cops for total ineptness, I do hope BoJo expresses ‘strong concern’ to Blair’s successor if he can stop laughing long enough. The actions of the Police are frankly ridiculous and embarrassing at a time when they are not the favourites of the general public, whoever dreamt this farce up needs to be publicly shamed and sent to “Traffic” for the rest of their career.
Let’s be Real
However let us not over cook this one. MPs should not be above the Law and remember, the “sanctity” of MPs and Parliament stems from the times when the Monarch had both the power and means to arrest and execute them. Times have changed and whereas Parliament had to be protected from the King, these days the “King” resides in 10 Drowning St, his placemen dominate and strangle Parliament which is no longer ‘ours’ – the British citizens.
Much comment has been made concerning Speaker Martin allowing the Police to search and confiscate material within the Palace of Westminster but that is rather false indignation in my view. The Speaker may not be removed from office, he must resign which is why various Speakers have been executed by the Monarch of the day. The role of the Speaker is to defend the integrity of Parliament, he is the “First Commoner” (how fitting in the current case), ‘lives over the shop’ but how relevant is all that history when the current incumbent is in the pocket of King Brown ?
The truth is today that it is we the citizens that need protecting from “King Brown” and his successors of whatever party who wields all executive powers and at a whim has sold us into EU bondage. It is we the citizens who now live under a tyrannical Parliament.
The Current Situation
I worry less about an MP being arrested by a Policeman who has lost his marbles along with his bicycle clips (“The Sweeney” has a lot to answer for in my opinion), and clearly might be better qualified for a less demanding career. I do worry though that the UK citizen’s, rights in our own country are so diminished both economically and legally because of 11 years of misrule by a Government that imagines any income or property we have, belongs to them and they will tax us blind regardless and bind our grandchildren to pay off their reckless borrowings.
The professional MPs on all sides of the House need to realise that their slavish devotion to progressing their personal careers by toeing the party line whilst ignoring conscience, principle and the fact they should represent their constituents first, has totally devalued Parliament. Like Tony Blair who had little time for the House, so do many MPs on all sides as the acres of green leather on display demonstrate too clearly in the few hours they sit in public these days.
Their lack of love for this once great institution and the disrespect for all politicians combined with an increasing sense of powerlessness by most of us and ever lower turnouts at elections, is killing the whole idea of our Parliament. Today Parliament is the oppressor of the people and whether Blair over cash for honours or Green over encouraging ‘leaks’ being arrested and questioned just might, might only, make them aware of the tyranny they have become to us. As far as I’m concerned, Mr Plod can arrest the whole 645 (or however many there are), of them if he can find a prison to keep them in !
