Prince Harry – The Pathetic British Media
The latest “Scoop” by the News of the World concerns some video footage of Prince Harry as an Officer Cadet “goofing around” on a training exercise. “The News of the World has obtained shocking video…” and all the usual poorly written crap that the pea sized brains of the Editorial staff can come up with.
Well it just goes to show that with “Strictly Come Dancing” finished and their advertising revenue falling off a cliff, the Editors of the News of the World will do anything for a ‘story’ as would some snide shit of a ‘friend’ who passed the video on for a few pieces of silver.
Henry VII, My Favourite Monarch…
I was once asked to name any person living or dead that I admired ‘most’, I nominated Henry Tudor or Henry VII, the father of Henry VIII who whilst the latter, was totally important in the history of these islands, would have been powerless without the efforts of his father, Henry Tudor.
The story of Henry Tudor is very complex as is the background from which he came, a period in British history known as “The War of the Roses”. Bill Shakespeare had it right, in theatre “villains” are far more interesting than ‘Angels’ and hence “Richard III” rather than “Henry VII” but that said, some comments too…
Music Is My First Love…
I have always loved music, fortunately I have very broad tastes and over the years have collected all kinds which I still enjoy though of course and as you get older, the emphasis changes.
Many years ago now and after my divorce, a friend lent me his flat whilst he was abroad and although I had never noticed before, I was genuinely shocked that whilst he had a massive TV, there was no means of listening to music – how odd ! However and what has bought this to mind was a combination of things which came together over Christmas…
Windows 7 Announced at CES 2009
As expected, Steve Bulmer of Microsoft announced Windows 7 yesterday at the CES Show in Las Vagas. Interestingly there will be a public Beta version available from tommorrow for download which is really good.
Early revues say that 7 is good, will I download a copy of the Beta ? The answer is no, I will wait until the actual product launches, I avoid Beta Testing and all my XP and Vista PCs are running nicely right now plus, I really don’t have the time. However, it is good to see MS coming back strong but with a touch of realistic humility.
Windows 7 & the Vista Blisters
The story of the Windows Vista Operating System has not been a happy one, to say the very least and has in many ways, “damaged” Microsoft and its reputation. To be fair Microsoft may well have been far too slow in seeing the problem that was forming under their feet during the development of Vista, but they weren’t deliberately malicious in releasing Vista, just unwise.
But from these events it seems that lessons have been learned and perhaps Windows 7 will be the product that MS wanted Vista to be. Anyway on the public blogs and Comments sections it has been amusing to see some of the moaning and groaning…
The Future of British Manufacturing
A Chap called Alex Singleton, in the DT posed the following question – “Is China overtaking the UK in manufacturing quality ?” This was based apparently on him visiting a UK store to buy stuff like suitcases, luggage and was confronted with a cheap version made in the UK and a more expensive version made in China, I think.
To be honest I found his approach all rather odd, he seemed to be writing about Britain and other similar Western countries having to concentrate on “designing stuff and intellectual property” which rather reminded me of being at Art School and studying Fine Art. “How will you make a living ?” To which the answer was to get a job teaching Fine Art in an Art School whilst you built a reputation as an Artist. It never seemed a credible career path so I didn’t finish the course.
The Way it Might Be in 2009… ?
Journalists, Politicians and Pundits of various kinds will “cast the Runes” and come up with all their various predictions concerning the year stretching before us. It will be this or that…blah, blah, blah. The ones I feel sorriest for are the politicians trying their very best to strike the most appropriate pose and speak “the right words”… without leaving hostages to fortune.
Gordon Brown didn’t get the tone right and whilst I understand David Cameron’s comments about Brown and the Blitz, perhaps that wasn’t spot on either but then theirs is an ‘odd trade’ in many respects but whilst their “constant circling” like boxers in the ring is understandable, the events and potential outcomes though, may be very different from what anybody expects…
It is January 1st Not April 1st
There is a journalist called Gerald Warner who writes for the Telegraph and today had me gasping incredulously with the “News” that the Labour Government has decided in its wisdom that it shall run an advertising campaign to get the public to nominate people for “Honours” as in New Years and Queen’s Birthday Honours.
The cynic in me detects a typical Labour over reaction to be seen to be doing the “right and fair thing” and no longer touting honours though after 11 years of doing the exact opposite in most respects, why bother now when we are shortly – 16 months and counting, going to be shot of the whole dreary crowd called the Labour Party.
