United in a Shared Experience

Over the next few days, the grisly business of politics will return to its usual drab work but for this day when young Ivan Cameron lost his battle for life, we are all in a way united. Neither David nor Samantha Cameron ‘deserved’ to lose their son, we are not built to survive our children but then, neither did the parents of the three brave soldiers who died this day either and perhaps in this sense, this death ‘stands’ in some kind of symbolic way for many.

It is not a matter of Cameron being ‘celebrity status’ it is a reminder that neither position nor money can insulate anyone from the slings and arrows of ‘Life’.

However much I have upbraided him and most assuredly will again in the future, Gordon Brown spoke well and fittingly in the House this day as did William Hague. For once our politicians can have a pride in their behaviour and perhaps for the first time in a very long time, the expression of their dignity and ours.
