Brown as a Magician

Someone writing in to the Independent wrote a “defence of Gordon Brown”. Now they may well have been a Labour ‘Troll’ but if so, an intelligent one in the way they laid their case out. On balance I suspect that they were a ‘Troll’ simply because they put forward the view that Gordon had a future and will likely surprise us all which, unless he resigns spontaneously which would be a surprise, is highly unlikely.

Although not even slightly “linguistic” and I cannot remember the expression, in French there is a phrase that literally translated means “Magic Moment” but in reality, means more than that, it means a suspension of (physical) belief and the acceptence however fleeting, of a magical moment but as we are talking about Gordon Brown, none I am sure applies… However and as this came from the Independent, I thought a ‘gentle reply’ might be more appropriate…

The Great Gordo

It is an interesting defence of Gordon Brown but I think that you are being over generous to say the least. His fiscal policies received warnings from the IMF as early as 2002 but he dismissed them, he is an arrogant little man who doesn’t listen I’m afraid.

As for the “Great Bank Rescue” and saving the World, you must remember that “Gordon is Not for Listening”, once he has pronounced on something, it is his way or nothing. He didn’t have a plan, it was a sudden shock over a weekend and something called Northern Rock that triggered the “Gordon Bank Rescue Template” which has a remarkable similarity to “Gordon Invests in Public Services Template” – throw lots of taxpayers money at it !

End Game

Brown is a man that was promoted above his level of competence when he became Chancellor and if Blair hadn’t been such a total coward, he should have sacked him when they were re-elected the first time. This Country runs on cock ups not conspiracies but also “There is a tide in the affairs of man…” Both Labour and Brown have had their turn at the wheel and their time is up and they know it else there would have been a totally different Budget the other day, they would not have produced a “do nothing Budget”, they have given up.

A Pointless Loser

Brown may be a political street fighter but, he is no politician plus, he never learns his own lessons and is a born coward. Contrast and compare Cameron in 2007 and Brown when the latter should have gone to the Country, he would have won but he blinked first, Cameron didn’t.

The problem is that Brown doesn’t believe in himself because having laid the “It was all the fault of sub prime in America” narrative, he failed to follow through with a true Austerity Budget on an “We are in this together” slogan.

As he is staring inevitable defeat in the face anyway plus a loss of his public life, he will almost certainly resign or do a “Michael Howard” following electoral defeat, a real politician, no a real man would have had the courage to throw the dice, we know Cameron would and I’m certain Blair would but Brown…
