A Lost Month

At the beginning of October I mentioned in another piece that I had picked up a rather nasty bacterial infection called Cellulitus which inflamed one leg to twice the size of the other. I detest being “ill”, have never been the kind of person who described a cold as “Flu” and have a reasonably high pain threshold but I must admit that in the earlier stages, it was very painful.
Still the main problem was that as I have a housebound 89 year old Mother to look after, being “not well” can only be a part time activity at best and so all activities have to be prioritized into essential and non-essential tasks. To me though the biggest loss due to necessity was having to suspend my morning bike rides.
Until Today
Last week the cause of this whole episode, an in-growing toenail, was finally treated and hopefully within a week to ten days, I can abandon the sandals and return to proper footwear !

This morning I fired up my trusty Klein bicycle and away we went, a little shaky in parts and not as fast but good enough to see my dear River Brue albeit at low tide which is not my favourite, I prefer high tide. The Autumn had taken its toll, leaves shredded, branches almost bare and the glorious colour palette has gone beyond the beautiful russets and now darker and duller.

Although I saw one Egret, there were no signs of my friends the Herons and I suppose the various species of birds that collected in large flocks a month back, have already departed on their migrations. But overall, the sheer joy of returning to my “normality” lifted my spirits greatly.
Well done you! Infections of that nature can be fatal if not treated!! Bravery is not acceptable here let me tell you. My old man – another of the bare legged brigade doesnt ‘hurt’ either – didnt want to tell me he fell down our damson tree (you will appreciate how comical that would look!) However, the scrapes, bruises and blood hardening on his side gave the game away when I got home, even then he tried to hold the other side saying it was the sore one, and for me not to worry. But take heart, Jack is missing you, and now he can jump up you, so cover them hairy legs!! I dont want my dog catching stuff!! And keep them herons up that end of town, dont want em on my pond …. but take care, and keep well, the Kellys from the ex B&B
Wot you mean, my comments are awaiting moderation?? Would I be anything other than ladylike and friendly?
Dear Mary
I would never accuse you of being “unladylike”, John of course a totally different story but, let’s say no more !
I look forward to seeing Jack and Ali again
