Bruce Having a Go…

Yesterday Bruce Anderson was having a bit of a rant about the Labour Party and whilst at times quite amusing, intended or not, it did lead to to several thoughts:
It was well written, contains many good points and it is true that Brown clinging on to power has and continues to damage this Nation. An Autumn Election should have been called, a decision made by the voters and we should all be starting to finally move forward again instead of being in Limbo whilst Britain Burns and necessary remedial actions are put off.
Brown is Not…
To be accurate, I do not think that Brown is consumed by self interest, he just isn’t bright enough, it takes great skill and intellect to be truly Machiavellian, Blair couldn’t manage it and Brown certainly can’t. In fact I would suggest that Brown is mainly defined by one thing only, a total lack of political nous, in a sense he is like a musician who is totally tone deaf and incapable of even survival in a Punk Band. In the world of politics he is the equivalent to that wonderful character in the “Good Life”, played by Penelope Keith, “Margo” who just never ever gets the joke, it all happened around her and she understood none of it.
It is interesting that Brown’s natural reaction to politics is both childish and tribal, Conservatives must be “evil”, he is a dumb party worker and has never ever been a politician let alone a statesman. For him there need to be strong visual clues rather like 1950s Westerns where you could always tell the villain, he wore black and had two guns, the good guy had a white hat and only one. Brown has absolutely no touch and feel when it comes to the game of politics which is why the EU like him, they can run rings around him and why in keeping him as Leader, the Labour Party has handed the next election to Cameron.
Labour will deservedly lose the next election, they need to frankly if the Party is to survive because it needs to find fresh talent it has none on the front bench now and the proof being, “If Gordon Brown was the answer, what on earth was the question ?” The man is a square peg in a round hole and even when he retires from front line politics next year, he still will not understand any of it and in that context, I look forward to his memoirs, they should be up there for (unintended) humour.
I don’t think Gordon Brown is evil, he is just way out of his depth, wrong man in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Another View
Somebody wrote in and the gist of what they were saying was that any British Government would have to Kowtow to Washington for both Defence and Economic reasons which I consider a foolish statement. However and in the way several recent Prime Ministers have acted, one can understand why some would believe this to be so.
My Comment on that…
Actually I think you are totally wrong in most of what you have written. Whilst I have always been “right of centre” in my politics, it was Harold Wilson who refused to sent troops to Vietnam and rightly so.
Secondly but to be fair speculative, I am sure that but for “The Men in Grey Suits” no doubt inspired by the awful Heslatine, if Thatcher had not been removed in the November before the first Gulf War, the second one would have never happened because if she had still been PM, Saddam would have been dealt with then, “Don’t get wobbly George” would have been the least of what she would have said but the troops would have taken Baghdad and a new regime of Iraqi choice, evolved without “Shock and Awe”
A Lack of Vision
To me the main post WWII problem has been the lack of vision of most British politicians. Up until MacMillan it was the “loss of Empire” that held most sway, afterwards, being a “bridge” between the US and Europe became the mantra and it was this that undid that most intellectually challenged PM of all, Tony Blair, idiot (numb nuts), of this parish.
I would personally like to see a British politician of any party, that finally understands the real strength these island nations bring to the party. The US does not do business with us because they ‘love us’, it is only because they find us useful and in a complex world nations that share common cultural roots and speak a similar language, find it easy to co-operate as is true of all the Anglosphere, including them awful Aussies who insist on beating us at every sport !
The Reality of All Alliances
One of the key things missing from British public life and not helped by the British Media, ever hungry for bad news stories that show the UK in a negative light, is a lack of understanding of the reality of all alliances which is that they are based upon mutual self-interest not whether people love us or loathe us.
If US Financial Institutions operate in the UK, it is only because it is in THEIR INTERESTS to do so – please do try and keep up ! The biggest threat’ to the City of London does not come from Wall Street or anywhere in Europe, it comes from Shanghai – wake up and smell the Coffee, there really are no ‘favours’ in this world, it is just where the money falls and that is not in Paris or Frankfurt.
The EU does not love us either. They do not do trade with us out of kindness, “We must send those stupid Brits more VWs, Audis, Mercs and BMWs out of the kindness of our hearts” – total botox, nor accept our EU Dane-geld out of compassion for “our need” to give it to them, THEY NEED THE CASH halfwits to fund French Farmers and pay Turkish workers in Germany !
We are an island global trading nation with a rich culture that has ‘infected’ a large part of the globe, this too is a great asset. Our interests lie in being confident in ourselves as a Nation and trading with all and like all good salesmen, understanding our customer’s needs.
Look to Your Own First…
Blair did not act in the best interests of this Country and neither has Brown both allowed our sons and daughters to serve in foreign wars totally ill equipped for the challenges that they would face on the battlefield, neither cared a fart for the consequences. As the Chancellor for 10 and PM for these two past grisly years, I would personally put Brown against a wall and shoot him for negligence or, dereliction of duty, in Public Office, this creature has been a monster and a disgrace to the mother that gave him life.
“Put him in a room with a glass of Whisky and a loaded revolver” all this sad prat would do is shoot the glass, waste the Whisky and cut his finger !
Both he and Blair were useless, spineless creatures who lacked any knowledge or belief in what these Island Peoples are about. It is not about following the supposed ‘self interests’ you write of, it is about following a national destiny that was evolved long before such creatures or even their grandparents, were ever imagined.
