Day Thirteen of the Election
All rather embarrasing, I seem to becoming a bit of a “Groupie” of the journalist John Rentoul who writes for the Independent but the simple truth is that he is one of the few who writes with any common sense.
Here is yet another excellent piece of professional journalism and a thoughtful analysis of the current situation which contrasts so strongly against the spurious rubbish most of the Media has managed to date.

The TV Debates
Partly because I do a lot of work on computers, I am not a great TV fan anyway and even if I wasn’t decorating my Lounge and had buried the TV in another room along with the other furniture, would I have watched this media/advertising fest ? The answer is NO and if I had watched TV that night, “Have I Got News…” would have been far more entertaining. In fact when I watch “Have I…” on BBC iPlayer later, one of the guests made a very funny comparison to the “X Factor” show by saying “…Louis Walsh is complaining about having to mentor Nick Clegg…”
To be honest, I suspect that if you had swapped Nick Clegg with Alex Salmon, the mighty Alex would have been pronounced the winner given the current attitude of the public.
I think these TV Debates are pointless in terms of British politics, we really do not have the same needs as the US Electorate where these events are crucial as “Presidential Candidates” may well be unknown outside of their home States, hardly the case here with PMQs etc. In terms of the UK, these are little better than ‘Beauty Contests, X Factor’ or any other show where the public get to vote on who stays or goes, about as trivial as one can make politics. Ultimately though I think that they will nail one issue firmly by polling day:
The public is currently very anti-politicians and Clegg played it well apparently but, he is a lightweight and I don’t think it will convert to much come the “Count”. However, it will finally destroy the myth that the LibDems don’t do well because they don’t get the same exposure as the other two, “yah boo unfair…” So we will be on to the next excuse I suppose but anything rather than deal with their approach which is obviously wrong.
Same Choice
Ultimately and providing the public have their “selfish thinking heads” on, it will be still a Labour vs Conservative decision on May 6th because for all the froth, the reality is that there are hard choices to be made. That there will be substantial cuts to be made in Public services, jobs and Tax increases is a certainty whoever forms the next Government is probably accepted by most people.
The choice therefore is whether the public want 5 more years of Gordon Brown or, do they want a change ? If so, there is only one gave in Town, David Cameron and the Conservatives, the LibDems really will still be nowhere.
To finish off on something important, Button and Hamilton managed a One, Two for McClaren in the Chinese Grand Prix this morning, held in Shanghai in very wet conditions – well done chaps !
