Day Twenty Six of the Election
Whoever is currently writing the Independents Editorials is behaving like a stubborn, spoilt brat because they insist on turning out juvenile crap everyday. Here in these last few days of the Election, the ‘Guardian has declared for Clegg, the Times for Cameron and all the Indy can do, is moan about the Tories, what a bunch of total Muppets !
Of course there is perhaps a bit of arrogance here on my part and most regular contributors in the sense that one expects the Editorial staff to read the feedback they get to their articles over the Web and the likelihood is that they never even look at the scribblings of us “civilians” when they have toenail and face painting to do this weekend.
My Reply Was As Follows
Instead of writing this crap, learn how it should be done and read Matthew Parris in the Times today. Although he can be a bit patchy in his articles, this one hits the nail on the head very accurately: “We squawk for change – but we don’t mean it”

These TV Debates were irrelevant unlike those in the States where because of the size of the Country plus, a ‘Presidential Candidate’ can come from nowhere and be totally unknown on the national stage, their TV debates are essential. We know who these people are, they have been around for flaming years so a British TV Debate was only going to be a “Beauty Contest”. In addition, the public had clearly indicated to the politicians when Osborne started to tell the truth, they didn’t want to know via a sharp drop in the Tory lead in the polls.
This Election May be Crucial but…
Get a grip, this whole election is a farce from start to finish because whoever gets into Office will have little choice in the policies that they follow because this election is about economics not politics. The choices are simple vote for whatever “face” you want to see more often on TV, Cameron, Clegg or Brown, the policies will be identical, they are-have, already been mapped out by the policy wonks at the Treasury ready for whoever forms the Government, any ‘policy variations’ to suit the rhetoric of one incumbent or another are minor, the situation is that dire, the choices that restricted.
For those who imagine that it is the elected politicians who should decide these things not Treasury people, for all the huff and puff, it is far too complicated and interrelated for that to be true. Take as an example what on the surface is a brilliant idea from the LibDems, to raise the Tax Threshold to 10,000 Pounds, an excellent move particularly if you were going to raise the rate of VAT. However, it can never happen because it could only work if everyone had a job and paid income tax and they don’t. The poorest in society dependent upon the State for their income such as OAPs, the disabled, single parents, the unemployed and so on would be hit very hard by a VAT increase so ALL their benefits would have to rise to compensate them at a time when you need to reduce Government spending…
Even in the best of times, there is very little “wiggle room” because we do have a very complex tax and benefits system, in these ‘not the best of times’, there will be absolutely none.
Of course the public will whine and bitch, some may say “We weren’t told” but then, they were hiding under their duvets but the majority will grit their teeth and reluctantly, get on with it, ‘normal political service’ may not resume for up to a decade.
