The Liberal Democrats are Total Prats
“Politics is the art of the possible” and all the ‘blather’ from both pro and anti EU people will not change the hard fact that the reason the “Lisbon Treaty” was not put to a Referendum here as in most other EU Countries because as in the Netherlands and France disguised as the “EU Constitution” it would have been rejected outright across a majority of EU countries.
In the UK this may, indicate an ‘Insular Mentality’ or, an ‘audience quite prepared to be sold’ the concept. There will never be a “Sales Text Book” written that does not point out that ‘objections’ are in fact ‘buying signals’ that just call for further information to confirm the deal.
Arrogance
The total idiocy of the EU and people like Nick Clegg is that they are far too arrogant and aloof to be bothered to even try and ‘sell the benefits’ of the EU. All Click Clack can say is that “Three million British jobs depend on the EU” and the answer to that is given the trade imbalance, more that 6 million mainland European jobs depend on the crap we buy from them.
If the UK was not a member of the ‘political EU’ would the Germans say: “No more VWs, Audis, BMWs or Mercedes for you, you ungrateful British swine !” Would the French refuse to export wine, smelly cheeses, Renaults, Citroens and Puegeots to us ? Who apart from a total Muppet believes that our EU partners only buy from us because we are in the EU ? Does it not have a lot to do with British based companies producing the right goods at the right quality and for the right price ?
As for being part of the Euro, consider right now bearing in mind our dire public finances, what benefit could we have today being part of it ? Ireland with a population of only 4.2 million is bravely going through savage cuts in public spending. Greece with a population of 10.7 million is getting a bailout package but that is causing the Germans a rather large ‘hissy fit’. Spain whose credit rating has just been downgraded with a population of 40.5 million, is “too big” to be rescued by the Eurozone and the UK has a population of 60 million.
Not Ready for Use
My point is neither pro nor anti the EU but it is a very large question mark I might suggest, if it is all so bloody wonderful, just why haven’t we ever been told about the ‘benefits’ if there are any ? If the LibDems do not do as well as expected come Friday morning, in no small part it will be because of their ill thought out policies and over the EU and the Euro in particular. In a highly EU sceptic Country, the ‘smug bug’ LibDems can’t even be bothered to even attempt to engage with the electorate on this topic, instead people are dismissed as “Little Englanders” and so on, all highly suspicious, could they be trusted on any other matter ?
Liberals before and now the LibDems have been bleating about an ‘unfair voting system’ and therefore “we need PR” but as Clegg demonstrated after the first TV Debate, if they have the right person upfront, they can be neck and neck with all other parties, what has let them down is a lack of realistic policies and even a smattering of faces that the public might recognise as capable of forming a Cabinet, they don’t need PR, they need to get a grip on their Party and its Policies and develop some that the broader electorate might buy into.
The LibDems over Trident
Where Clegg has got it totally wrong is on the choices: Do we have a Nuclear capability or not ? As a politician, that question is all he needs to answer, from there, it is down to the appropriate technical bods to recommend what system (if any), they propose and why. Clegg’s stance is total nonsense, a sort of “a little bit pregnant”, both he and his party need to sort themselves out over this, according to them should the UK have the capability or not is all they have to decide, either option is valid but the HOW is above their pay grade.
They are such a crock of shit, I would be delighted if come Friday morning they had actually lost seats.
