Sulky Child

The Independent apparently has an “Eeyore” writing Editorials for them and today in greeting the Conservative and Liberal Democratic Coalition Government, it was something like a Funeral dirge

http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/leading-articles/leading-article-an-unlikely-partnership-that-could-mark-the-start-of-a-treacherous-era-1971193.html

I don’t know who writes these Editorials but whoever it is, really ought to grow up rather than writing this childish, begrudging type of stuff, it is truly pathetic. It would seem that the LibDems having a foothold in Government is fine but not that it is with the Conservatives, total nuts

First Impressions

Cameron and Clegg got off to a good start and I think the real strength in making this work is the fact that Cameron is a ‘pragmatist’ as opposed to say Gordon Brown’s tribal dogmatic approach to politics. Obviously the real tests will only come when the cuts start to kick in but even so and I could be wrong, but I have high hopes for this working out for at least a few years, whether they make the full 5 years is another thing all together.

I couldn’t resist giving the Indy a bit of a slap but really does it matter, I seriously doubt that any of the staff bother reading the feedback.

Allow me to explain the “Big Picture”:

No political party who won this election or took part in this Government, would have the slightest chance of implementing their pet projects with a annual Structural Deficit of Government overspending that is twice the annual Defence Budget.

Let us put this into a simple perspective: Including our Armed Forces personnel, Defence and Support Industries not to forget the retailers near Forces Bases, it is likely that our Defence Budget supports around 1.5-2 million jobs so twice that which is our Structural Deficit represents 3-4 million jobs. No these are not hard facts or the exact way to look at it but, as a means of projecting a concept of the size of the problem, reasonably effective, it is HUGE.

So the childish swipe at Osborne is unfounded: “And George Osborne will find it much harder to unleash his right-wing ideological furies on a still fragile British economy with Vince Cable at his elbow.”

For both Cameron and Clegg, there is every incentive to make this coalition work and top of the list will be Clegg who like yourself believes PR is “wonderful”, knows that coalition Governments would be an inevitable consequence of PR so, making it work will be part of him saying: “Look it is ok, nothing to be frightened of…”

I could go on further but my main point is, if you want to foist PR on the British Electorate, today you should rejoice instead all you can do is grizzle like a sulky brat because it isn’t a ‘Lefty’ coalition ! Like I always tell people, be careful what you wish for in case you get it, PR think Israel and look back at some of the disparate political groupings they have had !

Will this coalition last ? Who knows but financially, no party wants to fight another election this year so my guess is that the coalition will last 18-24 months and Cameron will go slightly longer than that as a minority Government and 6 months later, go to the Country and likely get a big majority but then, I’m not Mystic Meg so who knows ?
