A Good summary of where we are and to what we are descending.

May I expand upon the opinion that both BBC and Sky News are also doing the public a disservice here?
I recognize that nowadays a temptation exists to present news in sound bite form but is it not fair to expect that within such delivery a fair balance be maintained? On the day JH was supposedly 'outed' I took time out to understand the issues involved and so sofa’d for three hours listening to Leveson, watching PMQ’s and then the House statement and Q&A session with Hunt himself. Thanks to the Parliament channel for providing this access without bias..
Armed with a better understanding of these issues and admittedly having gained some empathy with the gent’s somewhat nervous but direct responses I returned to BBC News to witness the difference in reporting akin to that between Christmas and Easter. They are such a cynical lot – wheedling away at their selected fragmentized political scorings and increasingly dismissive of the important brief of Justice Lord Leveson’s committee.
It was a bit like watching the tide come in with so-called political experts heaping on enough wet innuendo to see the man gradually drown before Lord Leveson rules on whether he is guilty or no.
I don’t see the fairness within such a rotational reporting regime. It is a gap that today Paxman himself can no longer smooth over. Why is Joe Public being asked to form a national opinion based on coverage that presents less than a quarter of the issues within the ‘big picture’. This is laziness.. for sure any argument can be broken down into its constituent parts; screwdrivers into fissures until one colourful aspect is found that fuels emotion and excitement.
Broadcast that.. But beware. Empathy tells me that Hunt is an honest man and history takes no prisoners.
Oh and yes that guy Murdoch who since somehow finds himself somewhat off the BBC horizon. Did he not mention that the BBC is hated by politicians? – I can now understand why this may be the case. This from just one viewer who has over the past 50 years not felt too uncomfortable when tuning in to BBC news but who is now convinced that the men and women paid for by license fee to flash unbiased news opinion from the stitch ups of their uncomely white mackintoshes are just plain monkeys. And we know what monkeys do.

Come on Baldy, you've got years left and too much energy too even thinking about formally retiring. You know better than most that a foot in the door starts the Domino effect that leads to new and interesting experiences. Think short term rather than decades - it helps prevent over analysing.

"I hear what you are saying" but to be frank, I totally disagree because I think that under current circumstances, he is as good as it gets, right man for the moment although, that may well not help his career.

I note your "A very rich and influential clown..." remark and am truly trying to work out what you mean. Is 'being rich a sin' ? And can someone influential be a clown ?

I look at the "Reader's Comments" on the Telegraph and see a bunch of demented fools, The Independent and people in total denial of reality and then, we have your personal prejudices. You are entitled to them but they solve nothing except assuage your need to be negative.

We are where we are and for sure, "the wheel will turn"...

For someone to have "Feet of Clay" haven't they to have been a perceived Hero?

Cameron is a clown. A very rich and influential clown, i agree, but a clown and like Boris Johnson a very dangerous clown.

I had an email to say that BT Vision would be activated 5 days' ago, I received the equipment (only because I ranted to a supervisor on the phone), they are absolutely incapable of performing. I have made at least ten phone calls and wasted hours and hours talking to various people without making any progress. I feel really sorry for the employees, they are all without exception, helpful, IT literate people, but any requests sent by them are totally ignored. I am going to move to Sky TV which I didnt want to do, but BT is pathetic.

BT, and their affiliated BT Openreach stooges are useless.

I've been without broadband for almost 3 WEEKS.

My provider says it is a problem with the network so cannot help, and you can't complain directly to Openreach, so therefore it becomes a game of running around in a loop.

I run my own business, and things are tough right now, but having to rely on wireless internet is not great, and is not reliable enough for business use.

Someone needs to knock BT off their perch. Surely it's time to lift the monopoly they have on the market.

Let someone else try - they probably could'nt do any worse.

So much rubbish has been said on both sides re the cat all showing how ill informed (or not interested in the truth) most people are.
My understanding of the facts are
The cat WAS cited
QUOTE Judge James Devittie said their joint ownership of a pet named Maya reinforced the quality of their family life and suggested that separating them could cause the man emotional trauma.
QUOTE The solicitor who represented the Mr Avila the Bolivian, Barry O'Leary, said that the cat was one detail among many in the case. He said: 'When giving the reasons for the success the judge did comment on the couple's cat,' he said. 'It was taken into account as part of the couple's life together.
SORT OF QUOTE The Home Office appealled arguing that the decision was wrong in law, and one error they cited was that too much consideration was given to the couple's cat.'
HOW CAN ANYONE EVER SAY A CAT WAS NOT INVOLVED. OF COURSE MAYA WAS INVOLVED.
On appeal a second judgement which took precedence over the first judgement then ruled that the main reason for allowing Mr Avila to stay was that the Home Office had not followed their own procedures (sounds to me that he was allowed to stay on a technicality)
HOWEVER summing up - the original judgement did cite the cat (possibly with other factors) in the findings. The Home Office did cite the cat (possibly with other factors) in its appeal. Only in the final appeal judgement was the issue of the cat left out.
BOTTOM LINE I dont feel insecure because Mr Avila has been allowed to stay
BUT
I do feel that UK law is a total joke world wide today. Photograph your daughter in a park, in a playground, shopping centre (Braehead?) and you face the wrath of the AUTHORITIES (arrest - confiscation of camera etc) often citing Anti Terror Laws whereas if you are a terrorist chances are on conviction you will be released early and if in addition you are an illegal immigrant you may well be allowed to stay in the UK permanently. Do I need to quote the statistics which show how often this happens.......
