Although not of the size and weight of Swans, Canada Geese are quite large birds and seeing them take off is quite a sight so here a 'solo' and also a pair.
Although I like them, I have never planted a Poppy in my life and yet every year thanks to our local birds (I guess), I will always have batches of Poppies springing up. They don't last that long but are a delight whilst they do.
I can make no apologies for posting another set of 'Heron pictures' I see them as quite magnificent birds especially in flight. Although not as dramatic as 'Raptors' and other birds of prey, they are large birds who seem to almost 'row' their way through the air with their huge wings.
The Somerset Levels are a flood plain and it is said that the County name of Somerset is a corruption of an earlier Saxon phrase which described the inhabitants as the “Summer People” because it was only in the Summer months that the Levels were useable because they were waterlogged in the Winter months. It is the type of habitat that supports wading birds of all kinds, among the larger birds Herons are fairly common and I always like to photograph them when I can.
